Schedule & Classes
At Mixed Grappling Arts we pride ourselves in having structured training programs available for all ages and skill levels. Our curriculum is designed to allow students to advance through the various grappling arts in the best possible learning environment.
Grappling is a GREAT way to get into shape without the monotony of going to the gym. Each class will provide you with an intense workout while helping you to develop strength, explosiveness, flexibility, and improve your overall conditioning in a fun, friendly atmosphere.
Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (GI)
Brazilian Jiu Jitsu promotes the concept that a smaller, weaker person can successfully defend against a bigger, stronger assailant by using leverage and proper technique – most notably by applying joint-locks and chokeholds to defeat the other person. BJJ training can be used for sport grappling tournaments and mixed martial arts competition or self-defense. Sparring (commonly referred to as "rolling") and live drilling play a major role in training.
Submission Grappling (NO GI)
Submission Grappling (also known as Submission Wrestling, or simply as No-Gi) is a martial art and combat sport that focuses on clinch and ground fighting with the aim of obtaining a submission hold. The sport of submission grappling brings together techniques from Folkstyle Wrestling, Freestyle Wrestling, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Judo, and Sambo. Submission grappling is the style of grappling that most closely resembles what you see in Mixed Martial Arts today.
Jiu Jitsu - A clean Jiu Jitsu gi is required.
Submission Grappling - A short or long sleeve rash guard with grappling shorts is required.
Uniforms are not required for trial classes. Just come in wearing good workout clothing. A snug fitting shirt and board shorts usually work best, but don't worry if you don't have that.
Brazilian Jiu Jitsu/Submission Grappling Classes
These are general classes suitable for all skill levels. Each class will consist of a moderate warm-up, followed by detailed technical instruction, timed drilling, situational training, and finish with live training where students will work to apply techniques against a fully resisting partner.
Open Mat is exactly what it sounds like. This is the time for students to have access to the gym to work on anything they choose. This is also a great time for students to get help from more experienced teammates.
Private lessons are available for students who are interesting in getting personal, one on one instruction. Duration of the private lesson varies: 60 minutes for adults and 30 minutes for kids. To use the time most effectively, it is highly recommended that the student come into the lesson having an idea of the material they would like to work on. Private lessons must be scheduled in advance.
Kids Program (Ages 6+)
Our Kids Program consists of both Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and Submission Grappling classes that are open to all skill levels. These classes will consist of a challenging warm up designed to improve strength, explosiveness, and overall conditioning and include fundamental grappling techniques. Technical drilling and live training sessions are a part of every class. On occasion, grappling based games will be played to make class fun, yet productive.
